UN 'deeply regrets' deportations of 40 Uyghurs by Thailand

The UN High Commmissioner for Refugees said Thursday it "deeply regrets the deportation" of around 40 Uyghurs by Thai authorities, despite fears they could be persecuted in China. 

"This is a clear violation of the principle of non-refoulement and the Royal Thai Government's obligations under international law," UNHCR's Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, Ruvendrini Menikdiwela, said in a statement. 

The Uyghurs Muslims are reported to be oppressed by Chinese government for long.
