Gono Odhikar Parshad president Nurul Haque Nur said, ‘Political parties have said something about the reports of the Reform Commission. Most political parties have said that we are all in agreement on the issue of banning the Awami League (AL). We wanted a decision on the Awami League from today’s meeting.”
He said this after the meeting of the National Consensus Commission on Saturday evening
Nur said, “Some parties have wanted to imply that if the local government elections are held earlier, there will be more conflict and violence at the grassroots. The Awami League will take the lead. I think this is not their correct interpretation. Because, even now, there will be some trouble in the local government elections.”
He said, “We have seen in the history of the last 53 years that no matter how fair the elected government is, they have influence in the local government elections. We have said that the local government system has been in a standstill for six months. If the national election is held in December, then there are ten months left. So, will these ten months be passed without representatives in the local government? We have called for this matter to be considered.”
