A court in Narayanganj on Tuesday sentenced a husband to life terms in jail in a case filed for killing a newlywed housewife in 2018.
The court of District and Session Judge Munshi Moshiyar Rahman passed the order in presence of the convict, Shaila Shawon, additional superintendent of police in the prosecution, said.
The convict is identified as Shamim, a resident of Rupganj upazila in the district.
According to the case statement, Shamim killed his wife Sheully Akter aged around 18 with cleavers over a demand of dowry on August 31, 2018 just eight days after their marriage in Rupganj upazila of the district.
Later, the victim’s family filed a murder case accusing Shamim at the local police station in this connection.
The court handed down the judgment after taking testimonies of the witnesses and verifying other relevant documents on Tuesday.
