Customs intelligence arrested a person with seven smuggled gold bars at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in the capital.
Md Nizam, son of Md Mofiz of Nangolmora village at Hathazari of Chattogram, flew from Dubai to Dhaka on Sunday.
Tipped off, customs officials challenged him followed by arrest at 5:15pm and interrogated about the gold bars. Initially, Nizam refused to have any gold.
The customs officials recovered two gold bars from his body and seven bars from a plastic bag.
Later, ornaments weighing 16 gram of gold were seized from his possession.
Estimated value of the recovered gold is Tk 65 lakh.
