Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenksyy said his team will meet with US officials in Saudi Arabia next week to resume talks to end Russia's war in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, EU leaders have backed a major defense spending plan that aims to free up billions of euros for the continent's security.
The defense package to mobilize €800 billion will see the bloc loosening up its fiscal rules so member countries can increase their military spending.
The EU, except for Hungary, also strongly supported Ukraine during talks held in Brussels. A statement said that Ukraine had to be in the "strong possible position" to secure lasting peace.
