A brilliant century from captain Najmul Hossain Shanto put Bangladesh in a commanding position as they reached tea on 201-3 on day one of the first Test against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday, reports Daily Sun.
Shanto struck his ninth Test hundred off just 127 balls, blazing 12 fours and two sixes prior to falling leg before wicket to Mohammad Abbas for 101 off 128 deliveries, departing on the very next ball after reaching the milestone.
Mominul Haque remains unbeaten on 64 off 139 balls, with Mushfiqur Rahim yet to get off the mark at the other end.
Shanto and Mominul had put on 170 runs off 257 balls for the third wicket — the highest partnership for that wicket against Pakistan and the third highest overall for Bangladesh at home.
Earlier, Bangladesh had recovered from the early loss of both openers to build a solid platform through the morning session.
