Former Bangladesh opener Imrul Kayes has called for young batter Tanjid Hasan Tamim to be considered for Test cricket following his maiden ODI century against Pakistan.
Bangladesh are playing a crucial series-deciding match against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi won the toss and invited Bangladesh to bat first.
The hosts got off to a strong start as the opening pair put on 105 runs for the first wicket. Tamim played a brilliant innings, reaching his first ODI century in impressive fashion.
The opener completed his half-century in 47 balls and took another 49 deliveries to reach his next fifty, bringing up his century in 98 balls.
However, he could not stay long after reaching the milestone and was eventually dismissed for 107 off 107 balls. His innings included six fours and seven sixes.
Following the performance, Imrul praised the young opener in a post on social media and expressed confidence in his future.
“Tanzid Hasan Tamim is an extraordinary cricketer. I am sure he will break the records of all Bangladeshi batsmen,” Imrul wrote.
“I feel he is fully prepared for Test cricket. I hope the Bangladeshi selectors will consider him,” he added.
Tamim’s century helped Bangladesh build a strong foundation in the crucial match as the hosts aim to level the series against Pakistan.
