Shakib Al Hasan has been picked up by Dubai Capitals for the upcoming Global Super League (GSL), replacing injured South African spinner Keshav Maharaj.
The franchise confirmed the signing via social media on Sunday afternoon.
Owned by India’s GMR Group—co-owners of IPL franchise Delhi Capitals—Dubai Capitals are also the reigning champions of the UAE’s International League T20.
Shakib is expected to make his GSL debut in the tournament opener on Tuesday, when Dubai Capitals take on New Zealand domestic side Central Districts.
If all goes to plan, the Bangladesh allrounder will also feature against his former BPL side, Rangpur Riders, on 16 July.
Shakib last played competitive cricket in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) for Lahore Qalandars, appearing in three matches. Although he didn’t feature in the final, his team went on to win the title.
