Bangladesh were bowled out for 248 in 45.5 overs after choosing to bat first in the second ODI against Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium on Saturday, reports the Daily Sun.
Opener Parvez Hossain Emon top-scored with a fluent 67 off 69 balls, including six fours and three sixes, while Towhid Hridoy made 51 off 69 deliveries to anchor the middle order. Bangladesh looked well-placed at 100 for 1 inside 16 overs but lost momentum as wickets fell at regular intervals.
Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz won the toss and opted to bat, but the visitors were soon pegged back after Tanzid Hasan fell cheaply for 7. Najmul Hossain Shanto added 14 before gifting his wicket to Charith Asalanka, and Hasaranga then bowled Emon with a sharp googly. Miraz managed just 9 before top-edging a pull off Dushmantha Chameera to leave Bangladesh wobbling at 127 for 4.
Returning to the ODI side for the first time in nearly two years, Shamim Hossain chipped in with 23 off 22 balls before falling to a short ball from Asitha Fernando, who also trapped Jaker Ali lbw for 24.
Hridoy battled on to reach his fifty but was run out for 51 after a mix-up with Tanzim Hasan Sakib.
Tanzim provided late fireworks with 33 off 21 balls, striking two fours and two sixes, but ran out of partners as Bangladesh were dismissed before completing their 50 overs. Mustafizur Rahman was last to fall, lbw to Hasaranga for a duck following a successful review.
Hasaranga finished with 3 for 60, while Asitha Fernando claimed 4 for 35. Chameera and Asalanka picked up a wicket apiece.
Bangladesh, trailing 1-0 in the three-match series, will need a disciplined bowling effort to defend their total and keep the series alive.
