Bangladesh Test captain Najmul Hossain Shanto has made a giant leap in the ICC Test batting rankings following his historic performance against Sri Lanka in Galle.
Shanto, who became the first Bangladeshi and only the 16th captain in Test history to score centuries in both innings, jumped 21 places to a career-best 29th after scoring 148 and 125*.
Mushfiqur Rahim, who also scored a century (163 and 49), rose 11 spots to 28th, currently making him Bangladesh’s highest-ranked batter.
Shadman Islam climbed three spots to 55th after a solid second-innings 76.
However, Litton Das slipped to 40th despite a first-innings 90, while Mominul Haque dropped to 51st following a modest outing.
Sri Lanka’s Pathum Nissanka also rose 21 places to 31st after scoring 187 and 24. Retiring veteran Angelo Mathews finished his Test career ranked 26th.
In the global charts, England’s Ben Duckett climbed to 8th, and India’s Rishabh Pant moved up to 7th after both scored twin centuries in Leeds. Joe Root remains at the top with 889 points. Ollie Pope (19th), Shubman Gill (20th), and KL Rahul (38th) all advanced after impressive hundreds.
In bowling, Nayeem Hasan surged six spots to 48th after claiming his maiden overseas five-for, while Hasan Mahmud moved up five places to 54th.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz rose to 23rd advanced one step despite missing the last match, while Taijul Islam slipped three places to 19th.
India’s Jasprit Bumrah continues to top the bowling rankings with 907 rating points followed by Kagiso Rabada, Pat Cummins, Noman Ali and Josh Hazlewood.
In the all-rounder rankings, India’s Ravindra Jadeja continues to lead with 376 points with Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Marco Jansen, and Pat Cummins in the next positions. England captain Ben Stokes climbed three places to break into the top five.
