After a two-year absence, left-handed opener Mohammad Naim has been recalled to Bangladesh’s ODI squad for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday announced a 16-member squad, with Naim earning a spot following his outstanding domestic form — 618 runs in 11 matches during the recent Dhaka Premier League.
Taskin Ahmed also makes his return after recovering from injury, strengthening the pace attack.
Chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain revealed the squad during a press conference at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz will captain the side in the three-match ODI series starting on July 2 in Colombo. This marks his first assignment as ODI captain.
To accommodate Naim, Soumya Sarkar has been dropped. The selectors cited Soumya’s lingering injury concerns as the reason for his exclusion.
Currently, Bangladesh are in Sri Lanka playing a two-match Test series. The second Test begins on June 25 in Colombo, following the conclusion of the first Test in Galle.
The ODI series will begin on July 2 in Colombo, followed by the second ODI on July 5 at the same venue. The third and final match of the series will be held on July 8 in Pallekele.
