Although Bangladesh had to settle for a draw in the first Test against Sri Lanka, Najmul Hossain Shanto proved himself with the bat, scoring centuries in both innings. Despite performing well, Shanto often faces criticism. However, he doesn’t seem too bothered by such things.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Shanto said, “Criticisms will always be there. As a player, what’s important is how I can contribute to the team every day. Whether my work ethic is right, how hard I’m working, whether my intentions are right — these are what matter. I’ve tried my best with the ability I have, and it feels good to contribute to the team.”
On not receiving the praise he might deserve even after doing well, Shanto added, “To be honest, brother, I don’t focus on who’s saying good things about me or who isn’t. I try to focus on how I can improve every day. Some days it works, some days it doesn’t — that’s just how the game is.”
