After picking up his 16th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, Taijul Islam agreed with Tamim Iqbal’s opinion that he might just be the “most underrated bowler in the world at the moment.”
Following the first day of the Chattogram Test, where Taijul finished with figures of 5 for 60, Tamim took to Facebook to praise the left-arm spinner's consistency and effectiveness.
“The most underrated bowler in the world at the moment,” Tamim posted soon after the day’s play.
"Look at the stats of the other current bowlers, and you will understand my opinion. Well done Taijul, on another five-wicket haul," he added.
In the post-day press conference, Taijul was asked regarding Tamim’s high praise.
He responded, saying, “Yes, I think so. Because you know the reason better than me.”
He added, “Discipline is key to my game, and I focus on maintaining my routine. Results may not always come immediately, but the effort will pay off in the long run.”
Taijul’s clinical bowling helped break Zimbabwe's resistance after a solid partnership between Nick Welch and Sean Williams. He also acknowledged the contributions of Nayeem Hasan, who took 2 for 42, for his important breakthroughs.
With Bangladesh in a strong position, Taijul’s focus on discipline and his ongoing consistency look set to play a crucial role as they aim to wrap up Zimbabwe’s innings on day 2.
