After a challenging first session, Zimbabwe mounted a solid comeback in the second session of Day One in the second Test against Bangladesh at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Cricket Stadium (BSSFLMRCS) in Chattogram.
Led by twin half-centuries from Nick Welch and veteran Sean Williams, the visitors steadied their innings and went into the tea break at 161 for 2 after 56 overs.
Resuming after lunch under pressure, Zimbabwe showed much better application with the bat.
Nick Welch, playing with positive intent, brought up his maiden Test fifty, scoring 54 before falling just before tea.
On the other hand, Sean Williams, the experienced campaigner, showcased his class with a composed innings, reaching 55* at the interval. His presence will be crucial for Zimbabwe as they aim to build a substantial first-innings total.
Earlier in the day, Bangladesh's bowlers had dominated the first session, making early inroads with debutant Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Hasan Mahmud striking quickly. However, as the ball softened and the pitch settled, the Zimbabwean batters found their rhythm, capitalizing on anything loose.
