Bangladesh have named a 16-member squad for the opening Test of the upcoming two-match series against Zimbabwe, with pacer Tanzim Hasan Sakib receiving his maiden Test call-up, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said in a statement on Tuesday.
Fast bowler Taskin Ahmed is a notable absentee from the last Test series Bangladesh had played. He will be missing the whole series due to an Achilles tendon issue.
BCB’s Senior Physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury said: “Taskin is currently rehabilitating for a left Achilles tendon issue and is not available for the series.”
Sakib, the 22-year-old, has made 28 appearances in white ball cricket for Bangladesh but is yet to feature in Tests.
Najmul Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim, Syed Khaled Ahmed, and Nayeem Hasan have returned to the squad. However, Liton Kumar Das is unavailable due to his leave for PSL.
Additionally, Shahadat Hossain, Hasan Murad, and Shoriful Islam have been dropped from the squad.
The first Test begins at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on 20 April, while the second match starts on 28 April at Chattogram’s Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Motiur Rahman Stadium.
