There have been rumors of a plan to build the 'Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium' in Purbachal for a decade. After the autocratic government fell in the student-public uprising, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) backed away from the decision to build the Sheikh Hasina Stadium. However, it has been newly informed that the stadium is being built. However, its name will be the National Cricket Ground (NCJ).
BCB Director Iftekhar Ahmed confirmed the matter.
A board meeting was held at the BCB office in Mirpur on Monday. After the meeting, chairman of the Cricket Management Department Nazmul Abedin Fahim and chairman of the Media Department Iftekhar Ahmed talked to the media.
He said that from now on, Sheikh Hasina Stadium will be known as the National Cricket Ground (NCJ).
The ODI World Cup is scheduled to be held in Bangladesh in 2031. The ICC has been promised to increase the venue for this tournament. The Sheikh Hasina International Cricket Stadium was supposed to be built in the shape of a boat in anticipation of the World Cup. This stadium was also called The Boat. But after the fall of the autocratic Hasina government, the future of the stadium was in doubt.
A week after taking office as the board president, Faruque Ahmed canceled the tender for the stadium. At that time, the board president said that although the Sheikh Hasina Stadium project was canceled, the stadium would be built in Purbachal. He announced plans to build two stadiums within a small budget to overcome the long-standing venue crisis.
