Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah will need to prove their worth to retain their place in the ODI setup, a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official stated on Monday.
The team’s performance in the recently concluded Champions Trophy was reviewed during the 18th meeting of the BCB board of directors, held at the BCB Management Office at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
Following the meeting, BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Nazmul Abedin addressed the media when asked about the duo’s prospects for the next World Cup.
“It’s a very difficult question [whether they will be in the plans]. They have to prove themselves. Considering their age and performances, it’s not my call but the selectors’, so it wouldn’t be right for me to comment. However, it’s not going to be very easy,” Nazmul told reporters.
He acknowledged their contributions but emphasized that discussions would be held regarding their future.
“They are very experienced players who have made significant contributions. But for any player, a time comes when their career nears its end. We will sit with them and hear their thoughts about their future,” he added.
The duo’s underwhelming performance in the Champions Trophy has fueled speculation that Bangladesh should begin planning for the next ODI World Cup without them.
