Concern is mounting within the police force as the list of officers facing mandatory retirement continues to expand, particularly among senior ranks.
According to sources, officers from the 20th batch are set to complete 25 years of service on May 31, with at least 45 reportedly under consideration for compulsory retirement. Many of them are currently on attachment or serving as officers on special duty (OSD).
In recent months, officers from the 15th, 17th and 18th batches have already been sent into retirement.
Officials at Police Headquarters say many of those on the list were closely associated with the fascist Awami League government.
During that period, some officers allegedly engaged in misconduct, including excessive use of force during the 2024 anti-government movement. There are also accusations linking certain officers to cases of enforced disappearance and killings.
Following the fall of the Awami government, several officers reportedly fled, while others were suspended or reassigned under the interim administration. Some are also suspected of maintaining ties with figures linked to the former regime.
Senior officials noted that records of officers promoted during the previous administration are being reviewed, with intelligence agencies monitoring their activities. A list of such officers has reportedly been sent to the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to sources, many of the 20th batch officers have been identified as beneficiaries during the Awami League government.
Meanwhile, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched investigations into alleged illicit wealth accumulation by some officers. Among them is DIG Jamil Hasan, who faces allegations of amassing significant assets, including large landholdings, residential properties and luxury vehicles. An ACC official has been assigned to probe the matter.
Apart from this, he has a cattle farm on at least 36 bighas of land. He has two luxurious flats in Rampura and Khilgaon in the capital. He has four luxury cars. ACC Assistant Director Raj Kumar Saha has been appointed as an investigation officer to trace his illegal assets.
Meanwhile, on February 9 last year, Mollah Nazrul Islam, who was attached to the Sarda Police Academy in Rajshahi, was arrested in a murder case. Then on March 17 last year, he was temporarily suspended from government service.
Finally, on April 22, the Home Ministry issued a notification sending 11 DIGs and two additional DIGs of the police on compulsory retirement.
