Bashundhara Shuvosangho has provided one month’s food assistance to an underprivileged woman in Barhatta of Netrokona as part of its humanitarian activities.
Sabina Yachmin, 35, a divorced and landless mother of two, has been struggling to survive for more than a decade. With no permanent shelter of her own, she has been living in her father’s small house after being driven out of her husband’s home. She earns a living by working as a domestic helper in other people’s houses and supports her two children with her limited income.
Sabina lives in Monash village under Asma union in Barhatta upazila. She is the daughter of freedom fighter Shamsur Rahman. Around 12 years ago, she married Yakub Ali of Demura village in Sahta Union.
According to family members, she faced abuse from her husband soon after the marriage. A son and a daughter were later born to the couple, but the abuse reportedly intensified after the births. Eventually, Sabina was forced to return to her father’s home with her children.
Members of the Barhatta upazila unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho learned about Sabina’s hardship and arranged food support for her family. The food assistance was formally handed over to her on Friday at the auditorium of the Barhatta Upazila Public Library.
Among those present at the event were Barhatta Police Station Officer-in-Charge Champak Dam, Barhatta Press Club General Secretary and President of Bashundhara Shuvosangho Barhatta upazila unit Azizul Haque Faruk, Kaler Kantho Correspondent and Adviser to the organisation Ferdous Ahmed Babul, Barhatta Press Club President and Adviser Shams Uddin Ahmed Babul, Barhatta Pilot Girls’ High School Head Teacher Abul Khayer Akand Titu, Kisholoy Shishuniketan High School Head Teacher Md Lutfor Rahman Khan, and several leaders and members of Bashundhara Shuvosangho.
Organisers said the main objective of Bashundhara Shuvosangho is to stand beside underprivileged and disadvantaged people in society. They also expressed hope that the organisation would continue its humanitarian efforts in the future.
