A Dhaka tribunal has fixed June 7 for delivering its verdict in the case filed over the rape and murder of child Ramisa Akter in the capital’s Pallabi area.
Judge Masrur Salekin of the Dhaka Metropolitan Child Violence Prevention Tribunal set the date on Thursday (June 4) after both the prosecution and defence completed their arguments.
Earlier, on May 25, Pallabi Police Station Sub-Inspector Ohiduzzaman, the investigation officer in the case, submitted the charge sheet against accused Sohel Rana and his wife, Swapna Akter.
The case was sent to the tribunal the same day for further proceedings. The formal trial began on June 1 after charges were framed against the two accused.
According to the charge sheet, Sohel was accused of raping and killing Ramisa, while Swapna was accused of assisting in the offence.
Ramisa was raped and killed on May 19, according to the case statement.
After the killing, Sohel allegedly fled by cutting through the window grille of the room. Police took Swapna into custody after being informed through the national emergency service 999.
Sohel was later arrested in front of Fatullah Police Station in Narayanganj.
Ramisa’s father filed a case with Pallabi Police Station. On May 21, Sohel gave a confessional statement before a court under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, after which the accused were sent to jail.
Ramisa’s father lives with his family in a rented flat in Section 11, Block B, under Pallabi Police Station, and works at a private office in Banani. The accused Sohel and Swapna lived in another flat in the same building.
