The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has congratulated Bangladesh and Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on his election as president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
In a message issued from Jeddah on Tuesday, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha extended his warm congratulations to the government and people of Bangladesh and to Khalilur Rahman on his election to the prestigious position.
Taha expressed confidence that Rahman’s leadership of the General Assembly would help strengthen multilateralism and contribute to addressing common global challenges.
He highlighted Rahman’s diplomatic experience and expertise and noted Bangladesh’s constructive role in international affairs, particularly within the United Nations and the OIC.
The OIC chief also wished Rahman success in carrying out his responsibilities as president of the world body’s principal deliberative forum.
He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to continued cooperation and coordination with the presidency of the United Nations General Assembly in advancing peace, security and sustainable development worldwide.
The message underscored the close ties between Bangladesh and the OIC and reflected the organisation’s confidence in Bangladesh’s growing role in global diplomacy.
