“I don’t want justice, because you can’t judge. You have no record of judging,” said Abdul Hannan Molla, father of murdered child Ramisa Akhter, speaking to journalists in visible grief following his daughter’s killing in the capital’s Pallabi area.
His remarks came amid growing public outrage over the brutal murder of the child, whose throat was reportedly slit inside a residential flat on Tuesday.
“You can’t deliver justice. My daughter will not come back. There is no example of your justice. It lasts only a few days, then another incident happens and it is forgotten,” he added.
Police said Ramisa Akhter was murdered on Tuesday in Pallabi, Dhaka. Two suspects — neighbour Sohel Rana (30) and his wife Swapna — have been arrested in connection with the incident.
At a press briefing on Tuesday night, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Nazrul Islam said the accused couple had rented a flat opposite the victim’s residence only two months earlier.
According to police, the victim’s mother discovered her sandals outside the apartment while looking for Ramisa to send her to school around 10:30 am. When she knocked on the door, the killing was allegedly taking place inside the flat.
Police said the suspect’s wife kept the door closed, allegedly allowing the main accused to escape briefly before being detained.
Investigators suspect the child may have been targeted due to a neighbour’s “deviant sexual motive,” and said she was strangled to prevent detection of the crime. Officials added that the body was later dismembered in an attempt to conceal evidence.
However, police said confirmation of sexual assault will depend on autopsy and forensic chemical reports.
