A total of 47,040 Bangladeshi pilgrims have reached Saudi Arabia so far to perform Hajj this year, with the death toll rising to 10, according to the latest official bulletin.
The update, released on Wednesday morning, said the pilgrims traveled on 120 Hajj flights. Of them, 4,071 went under government management, while 42,969 traveled through private arrangements.
Among the deceased, eight died in Makkah and two in Madinah. Two of the deceased were women.
Flight-wise data shows that 22,038 pilgrims traveled on 55 flights operated by Biman Bangladesh Airlines, 16,508 on 44 flights by Saudia, and 8,494 on 21 flights by Flynas.
This year, a total of 78,500 pilgrims from Bangladesh have received permission to perform Hajj. The operations are being managed by 660 agencies, including 30 lead agencies and 630 coordinating agencies.
The first Hajj flight departed from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on April 17 at 11:57 pm, carrying 419 pilgrims to King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah. The flight was inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
