The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has decided to operate virtual courts in its High Court Division two days a week in a move aimed at conserving fuel and electricity amid ongoing global economic pressures.
According to a High Court Division notification signed by Registrar Muhammad Nurul Amin Biplob, the decision has been taken in line with the Information and Communication Technology Use in Courts Act, 2020 and existing practice directions issued by the court.
Under the new arrangement, all bench officers serving single benches of the High Court Division, as well as at least one bench officer from each division bench, have been instructed to collect Zoom access credentials by April 20, 2026.
The measure is intended to reduce operational energy use while maintaining judicial services through digital platforms.
