Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud said that the government was forced to increase the price of fuel oil due to high import costs.
The minister said this while talking to reporters at the Secretariat on Sunday.
In response to reporters' questions, the minister said, “The whole world has adjusted their oil prices. Even America has increased it by $5. There, we are now making price adjustments below the price of the stock that we have imported in Bangladesh since the war broke out.”
He said, “We were forced to do this, because it has to be bought with foreign currency. However, we have made arrangements so that we can stay at a tolerable level.”
When asked how much subsidy we still have to pay after the price increase, the minister said, “The subsidy is still there. If you want an accurate calculation, then go to my ministry and get the calculation from there.”
The entire world's energy market is unstable due to the war in the Middle East. Bangladesh has also been facing a fuel crisis for the past one and a half months. The government has finally increased the prices of all types of fuel, despite not increasing the prices of other fuels except jet fuel.”
The Department of Energy and Mineral Resources issued a notification on Saturday, adjusting the selling prices at the consumer level in line with the increase in fuel prices in the world market, which has come into effect from Sunday.
