The bodies of 34 expatriates were repatriated from three overseas countries on Saturday night, said officials at the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board (WEWB), adding all of them embraced natural deaths.
Among the bodies, 30 reached the Dhaka airport from Kuwait alone on a chartered flight of Kuwait Airlines. These bodies were slated to be flown in earlier, but the US-Israeli war on Iran prevented safe flights, prompting authorities to wait until the present two-week ceasefire took hold.
The Expatriate Welfare Desk of the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport confirmed the delays.
The corpses of two other expatriates were returned from Libya and two more from Malaysia on separate flights.
The Wage Earners’ Welfare Board provided Tk35,000 cash to each of the deceased’s families to pay for burial rites and other purposes. Officials also assured the families that they would get any due insurance claim and other financial benefits at the earliest.
