Despite gaining recognition as a nation through the Liberation War, the expected progress has not been achieved in the last 56 years, said the LGRD minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He said this at the Youth Leadership and Development Organization JCI Carnival on Friday.
The LGRD Minister said, “We have gained recognition as a nation through the Liberation War. However, we have not been able to do much good in the last 56 years.”
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The country's per capita income and GDP have not yet reached the desired level. About 42 percent of the people are still living below the poverty line and many are deprived of the right to education.”
However, he also expressed optimism that Bangladesh has been able to overcome food shortages by highlighting the country's various progresses in various sectors.
At the same time, Mirza Fakhrul mentioned the establishment of businesses and agricultural farms on the initiative of a significant section of the youth as a positive change for the country.
He said, "A large portion of the youth are becoming owners of various organizations through their own initiative, and are opening things like agricultural farms. That is certainly positive. JCI is working for the youth, which is commendable."
