Commerce Ministry secretary Mahbubur Rahman has passed away (Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun). He was 58.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the capital's Square Hospital at 6:25 am on Friday.
Social Welfare Ministry secretary Md. Abu Yusuf confirmed this information in his Facebook post.
The Commerce Ministry said that he was admitted to the hospital on April 13 due to a decrease in blood platelets. Later, malaria was detected in his body.
Mahbubur Rahman joined the National Board of Revenue, Internal Resources Division, Ministry of Finance in the 13th batch of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Customs and Excise) cadre in April 1994 as an assistant commissioner under the Ministry of Finance. He served as deputy commissioner, joint commissioner and additional commissioner in various Custom Houses, Custom Excise and VAT Commissionerates and the National Board of Revenue until December 2010.
