Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, “In the next 5 years, 2.75 crore farmers will be given ‘Farmer Cards’ in phases. This is one of the promises made before the election. Besides, we have waived off agricultural loans up to Tk 10,000 in the first week. 12 lakh farmers have received this benefit.”
He said this after inaugurating the Farmer Card distribution program on Tuesday afternoon.
The Prime Minister also said that initiatives will be taken to build factories related to agriculture in agriculture-dependent areas. He said, “Farmers should get more prices. I sat with agricultural product traders yesterday (on Monday). Different countries and domestic traders are interested in building cold storages. The government is proactive in this regard.”
Earlier, the Prime Minister left Dhaka for Tangail by road on Tuesday morning. He reached Shaheed Maruf Stadium at around 11:30 am Tuesday.
The Prime Minister inaugurated the distribution of farmer cards and pre-piloting activities as the chief guest at Shaheed Maruf Stadium at around 12:30 pm.
There, the Prime Minister personally distributed farmer cards to 15 farmers and handed over tree seedlings. He inaugurated farmer cards in 9 more upazilas through video conference.
State minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultana Salauddin Tuku and Prime Minister's Advisor Ruhul Kabir Rizvi spoke at the program, which was chaired by minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid.
