Ten more bills were passed in Parliament on Friday (April 10), converting ordinances issued by the interim government into formal laws.
No detailed debate took place during the morning session of the 13th day of the first session of the 13th National Parliament, as there were no item-wise amendment proposals. The bills were passed unanimously when presented by the respective ministers. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, presided over the sitting.
Out of 133 ordinances issued by the interim government, a parliamentary special committee recommended that 98 be passed without changes and 15 with amendments. It also recommended repealing four ordinances and restructuring 16 others into new legislative drafts.
The bills passed in Friday’s session were part of those recommended for approval without amendment.
Housing and Public Works Minister Zakaria Taher placed several development authority bills, including the Narayanganj Development Authority Bill, 2026, Barishal Development Authority Bill, 2026, Mymensingh Development Authority Bill, 2026, Cumilla Development Authority Bill, 2026 and Rangpur Development Authority Bill, 2026, all of which were passed unanimously.
Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury introduced the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which was also approved without opposition.
Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo moved the Bangladesh Forest Industries Development Corporation Bill, 2026, which was passed unanimously.
Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury placed several financial bills, including the Deposit Protection Bill, 2026 and the Excises and Salt Bill, 2026, along with the Value Added Tax and Supplementary Duty (Amendment) Bill, 2026, all of which were approved by voice vote.
