The government has ordered the deployment of the army to ensure security at major oil depots in the country in the wake of the fuel crisis.
This information was shared in a notification by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources on Monday.
The notification said that in the recent situation, it has been reported that in some cases, fuel oil supply from various depots in the country is not possible as per the sudden increase in demand of dealers. As a result, there is a possibility of an undesirable situation at some important depots of fuel oil marketing companies.
The depots identified as risky include the main facility located in Patenga in Chattogram metropolis, Daulatpur in Khulna, Baghabari in Sirajganj, Godnail and Fatulla in Narayanganj, Parbatipur in Dinajpur and Barisal depots.
It also said that since the country's fuel oil depots are KPI-listed facilities, their security needs to be ensured on an urgent basis. In this context, the deployment of the army is urgently needed to ensure the overall security of the aforementioned establishments of the marketing companies.
Meanwhile, last Saturday, BPC chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman proposed to deploy the army at the main oil depots.
In two separate letters signed by him, the Energy and Mineral Resources Department was requested to take necessary measures in this regard.
