The government is working to take education out of rote learning and build an education system based on creativity, analytical thinking and practical skills, said Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a meeting organized in the capital on Monday with a view to implement various initiatives related to education and human resource development.
The Education Minister said that according to the BNP's election manifesto 2026, groundbreaking steps will be taken for education and human resource development under the next 180-day program. By making the country's education system modern and skill-based, the future generation will be prepared for employment.
He said, “The government's goal is to take education out of rote learning and move it towards developing creativity, analytical thinking and practical skills. Joint research laboratories between universities and the industry sector will be established to encourage research and innovation, and necessary reforms will be taken to improve the quality of the higher education system.”
It was informed in the meeting that education and skill development will be given utmost importance to utilize the country's demographic dividend and future longevity dividend. Special importance will be given to quality education, skill-based training and expansion of employment opportunities for the working youth. At the same time, there are plans to ensure good health, social security and active participation of the elderly population in the future.”
Stating that the main goal of the BNP's education policy is to build a life-oriented, work-oriented and production-oriented education system, the Education Minister further said, “A plan has been taken to ensure five percent allocation of GDP in the education sector in phases. Initiatives will be taken to strengthen teacher training, expand technology-based education, establish multimedia classrooms and implement the 'One Teacher, One Tab' program to improve the quality of education.”
In addition, it was informed in the meeting that initiatives will be taken to introduce third language education from the secondary level to improve the skills of students, make technical education mandatory along with general education and involve students in sports, culture and moral education. It has also been reported that there are plans to ensure a healthy environment in educational institutions, introduce mid-day meals in phases, and introduce free Wi-Fi facilities for students.
