Amid escalating tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States across the Middle East, the Kuwait-based Bangladesh mission has urged expatriates to remain calm and stay in safe places.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Kuwait, Syed Tarek Hossain, made the call during a virtual meeting with journalists and representatives of Bangladeshi social organizations in Kuwait aimed at preventing rumors and ensuring the flow of accurate information among expatriates.
Around 300,000 Bangladeshi expatriates are currently living in Kuwait.
The meeting, held online via Zoom at noon local time on Sunday, was attended by leaders of the Bangladesh Press Club Kuwait, representatives from different media outlets and members involved in community activities.
Participants discussed several issues affecting expatriates in the current situation, including flight disruptions, visa complications and passport-related matters.
Ambassador Tarek Hossain urged Bangladeshi nationals in Kuwait to remain patient and vigilant. He also advised them to refrain from sharing photos, videos or live broadcasts on social media related to missiles or attacks.
He further requested expatriates not to spread false or misleading information and advised them to contact the hotline number of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Kuwait in case of any emergency.
The ambassador said the embassy is maintaining regular communication with the Kuwaiti authorities regarding visa validity and leave-related issues for expatriates who are currently outside the country and unable to return due to the prevailing situation.
During the meeting, journalists present — including Moin Uddin Sarkar Suman, president of the Bangladesh Press Club Kuwait and a correspondent for Somoy TV — urged the embassy to play an active role in providing fast and reliable information to expatriates.
They noted that members of the Bangladesh Press Club Kuwait are regularly publishing updates and reports related to expatriate interests and the evolving situation in national media so that Bangladeshi workers can remain informed.
Among others attending the meeting were embassy counsellor and head of chancery Mohammad Muniruzzaman; Bangladesh Press Club Kuwait general secretary and Bangla TV representative A H Jubed; senior vice-president and My TV representative Al Amin Rana; organising secretary and Ekatta TV representative Sadeq Ripon; women’s affairs editor and CHD TV representative Nasrin Akhter Mousumi, along with other journalists and community activists.
