Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has been appointed as the Leader of the Opposition in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad.
On the other hand, Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, newly elected lawmaker from Cumilla-11 (Chouddagram) and Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat, has been named Deputy Leader of the Opposition.
Meanwhile, NCP Convener Nahid Islam has been appointed as the Opposition Chief Whip.
The decisions were taken at a parliamentary party meeting held on Tuesday following the oath-taking ceremony of the lawmakers.
The matter was confirmed by Md Abdul Karim, Ameer of Jamaat in Gaibandha district and MP from Gaibandha-2, who attended the meeting.
Party sources said the 11-party alliance will soon issue a joint press release formally announcing the appointments.
