BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has been sworn in as the 11th Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
He took the oath of office at 4:00 pm on Tuesday at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The oath was administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
After the swearing-in, Tarique Rahman signed the oath of office and oath of secrecy.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by representatives from various South Asian countries, along with a large number of local and foreign dignitaries.
In a departure from tradition, this year’s oath-taking ceremony for the prime minister and members of the cabinet was held at the South Plaza of the National Parliament instead of Bangabhaban.
Senior political leaders, newly-elected Members of Parliament, government officials, and invited guests were present at the ceremony.
Tarique Rahman’s swearing-in follows his unanimous election as Leader of the House by BNP’s parliamentary party earlier in the day.
Earlier in the morning, the newly-elected lawmakers from BNP, Jamaat, NCP and others took oath.
Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin administered the oath to the MPs around 10:45 am at the Oath Room of the parliament.
