Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that he is taking leave from all as the Chief Advisor of the interim government.
He said, “I did not take charge as the Chief Advisor 18 months ago at the request of the students and the public after the mass uprising. Now it's my time to leave."
The Chief Advisor said this in his address to the nation at 9:15 pm on Monday.
In his speech, the Chief Advisor said, “Today, on the farewell day, I will tell you something by remembering August 5…What a day of great liberation that was! What a day of joy that was! Bangladeshis everywhere in home and abroad shed tears of joy. Young students have brought the country out of the clutches of the demon. The country has been liberated. But the country was completely immobile. How to make this immobile country active was on everyone's mind.”
The Chief Advisor said, “The student leaders of the mass uprising decided that a government would be needed to activate the country. They informed me to form and run the government. I was abroad at that time. I did not agree to take responsibility. They convinced me by saying that I could fulfill my duty to the nation. After 18 months, it is my time to leave. I have come before you today to bid farewell to my work.”
Earlier on Monday, the Chief Advisor to the interim government, Professor Muhammad Yunus, gave a farewell speech to the officials and employees of his office. After the speech, he took part in a photo session with everyone working in the office.
