The Election Commission (EC) has received a letter from the Parliament Secretariat requesting the chief election commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin to administer the oath to the newly elected members of parliament (MPs).
Confirming the development on Monday, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said the secretariat sent the letter addressed to the CEC in line with constitutional provisions.
Under the Constitution, elected MPs must take the oath within three days of the publication of the official gazette. The CEC is authorised to administer the oath in the absence of the speaker.
