Expressing gratitude to the people, BNP standing committee member who was newly elected as Member of Parliament from Dhaka-8 constituency, Mirza Abbas said, “Voters waited for a long time to go to the polling stations and cast their votes this time. They supported me, and for that, I extend my sincere greetings and thanks to all of them.”
A video was published on his own Facebook page Saturday afternoon. Regarding the most worrying moment on the polling day, Mirza Abbas said, “When I heard that our ballots were being canceled in some centers, it was the most worrying moment.”
Regarding his patience, he said, “I said that Allah is testing my patience a lot. In the end, it proved that patience pays off. But it was a very difficult matter.”
Regarding the situation on the polling field, the BNP leader said, “Elections are meant to be a matter of joy and celebration, not a battlefield. But some have turned them into a battlefield, which is not desirable. In fact, the polling field was made into a battlefield from the very beginning, just to draw attention to themselves, nothing more.”
Speaking about public interest in the Dhaka-8 results, he said, “People did not expect to see the kind of public abuse that took place. That is why they were eagerly waiting for the results.”
Denying that he adopted any special strategy in the race, Mirza Abbas said, “I did not use any particular strategy. Rather, he tried to highlight himself by creating a narrative about me in front of the people. But that is a bad strategy. This may be the first election of his life, but it is not mine. I have faced many heavyweight candidates before. However, this election was somewhat exceptional.”
