The interim government has kept 50 cars ready for potential cabinet members ahead of the 13th parliamentary election slated for 12 February.
Disclosing the information on Tuesday, the Cabinet Division said the tentative date for the swearing-in of the new cabinet members is 17 or 18 February, although it may take place earlier.
Officials said keeping 50 cars ready does not mean that only 50 ministers and state ministers will take the oath. Usually, more cars are kept ready than the number of cabinet members, they said, adding that most ministers and state ministers take official cars, while some do not.
On 5 February, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said power will be handed over to the new government as quickly as possible.
“I do not think the swearing-in will go beyond 17 or 18 February,” he said at a press conference.
The parliamentary election and the referendum on the July National Charter will be held simultaneously on 12 February.
