Information and Broadcasting Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan on Tuesday urged voters to cast a ‘yes’ vote in the upcoming referendum, saying it is essential to prevent the return of dictatorship in the country in the future.
“Give your opinion through referendum so that no other dictatorship can take away your voting rights in future,” she said while speaking at a referendum campaign in Rajbari.
Rizwana said the young people who took part in the July Uprising wanted a democratic government instead of dictatorship.
“Just because of that, about 700 people had to sacrifice their lives, and many people had to suffer disabilities,” she said.
Rizwana Hasan, also the environment, forest and climate change adviser, said the political parties, people and the interim government are ready for the elections, but even those who are questioning about elections are the people belonged to the fallen government, who staged farcical polls in the past.
She said due to the lack of a democratic government, the President could have pardoned even a killer. “If a fair governing system is formed in the country through a democratic government, oppression will no longer be existed,” she said.
