Energy Advisor Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan has expressed hope that the ongoing LPG crisis in the country will end before Ramadan.
He also said that the government will continue to coordinate closely with LPG operators for this purpose.
In an emergency meeting held at the Secretariat on Tuesday, LPG operators assured the Energy Advisor that the market situation will normalize before Ramadan.
In the meeting, the Energy Advisor directed all concerned to make every effort to ensure that there is no shortage of LPG during the pre-national election period and Ramadan. He said that the government will provide all necessary support in this regard so that the import commitments made by LPG operators in January and February are reflected in reality.
The operators informed that there has been some disruption in LPG imports recently due to various adverse international situations. However, they denied the allegations of excessive price hike.
They also said that if the target of importing 167,600 metric tons of LPG set for January 2026 is met, the crisis will be largely resolved.
The Secretary of the Energy Department, the Chairman of the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) and other senior officials concerned spoke at the meeting.
