The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Evaly e-commerce platform’s chairman, Shamima Nasrin, and chief executive officer (CEO) Mohammad Rassel again.
A DB team conducted a raid in the Dhanmondi area of the capital late Monday and took them into custody.
The matter was confirmed on Tuesday by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
He stated that Evaly’s CEO Mohammad Rassel and Chairman, Shamima Nasrin have been arrested, noting that there are 391 warrants issued against them.
Dhanmondi police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saiful Islam confirmed that the police were informed about the arrests of Shamima Nasrin and Mohammad Rassel.
According to DB sources, around 300 arrest warrants have been issued against Shamima Nasrin and Mohammad Rassel in cases filed at Dhanmondi, Kafrul, and Savar police stations. In Dhanmondi alone, more than 100 warrants are active against them.
Previously, on September 16, 2021, both Rassel and Shamima were arrested from their residence in Mohammadpur over allegations of fraud and embezzlement. Shamima was released on bail in April 2022, while Rassel secured bail in December of the same year.
