Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul said that in all referendums held in Bangladesh, the government has historically supported one side.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday at the Foreign Service Academy on Bailey Road, he added that no new government is formed through a referendum.
Responding to questions about the current interim government’s nationwide campaign in favor of a “Yes” vote, Asif Nazrul said the administration has prioritized reform, justice, and elections. He noted that initiatives such as the formation of the National Consensus Commission and the drafting of the July Charter are part of ongoing advocacy for reforms.
“Reform was one of the core expectations of the mass uprising,” he said. “At this moment, we are speaking in favor of reforms and appealing to the public to support this process.”
