BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said that the responsibility of building public trust lies directly with politicians themselves.
He said that people’s expectations and aspirations have now reached a much higher level, which politicians must be able to understand and accommodate.
Amir Khasru made the remarks while speaking at a seminar titled “National Election 2026 and Citizens’ Expectations”, held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in the capital’s Agargaon area on Tuesday afternoon.
He said that in the Bangladesh of the future, those who fail to uphold accountability and reflect public aspirations will have no political future. Meaningful reforms would take place automatically if accountability could be ensured.
Emphasising the importance of civil society in sustaining a democratic environment, Khasru said that authoritarianism emerges when civil society is not allowed to function.
“No government can solve problems alone. Implementation requires partnership,” he added.
The senior leader of the party added that if BNP comes to power, it would work with the private sector, civil society and NGOs to address national challenges.
