Chief Advisor (CA) Dr. Muhammad Yunus said that the main goal of the education system is not only to create a workforce suitable for jobs but also to develop creative, independent-thinking and innovative people.
“People are creative by nature. But the conventional education system often suppresses that creativity and limits it to job preparation,” he said.
He said this at the opening ceremony of the “South Asian Regional Conference on State of Higher Education and Future Pathway (SARCHE 2026)” at a five-star hotel in the capital on Tuesday.
Dr. Yunus said if education is seen only as a tool for getting jobs, its real purpose is hindered. The main goal of education should be to awaken people's creativity and teach them to think independently.
He said, “Students should be developed not only as job seekers, but also as job creators. Entrepreneurial mindset, imagination and the courage to create something new are important qualities that need to be developed through the education system.”
The Chief Advisor said, "South Asia is a region of potential. But due to political instability, social divisions and wrong policies, the potential of this region is often not utilized. Education can be the force that will enable the youth of this region to lead change."
