Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali said police have identified the attackers who shot Inqilab Manch spokesperson and independent Dhaka-8 parliamentary candidate Sharif Osman bin Hadi and that their arrest could take place at any time.
Speaking to a media outlet around midnight on Friday, the DMP commissioner said operations are underway to detain the suspects. “The terrorists who shot Osman Hadi have been identified. They can be arrested at any moment,” he said.
Meanwhile, Sharif Osman bin Hadi has been transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to Evercare Hospital in the capital following a decision by his family. He is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
The shooting occurred on Friday at around 2:15 pm in front of the Bijoynagar water tank area in Dhaka. According to police and hospital sources, two men on a motorcycle shot Hadi at close range while he was traveling in a rickshaw and then fled the scene.
Hadi was initially rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition before being transferred to Evercare Hospital at his family’s request.
Resident Physician of the DMCH Emergency Department, Dr. Mostaq Ahmed, said the bullet entered the right side of Hadi’s head and exited near the left ear, with fragments of the bullet remaining lodged in his brain.
