BNP central leader and former minister and nominated candidate of Paddy Sheaf symbol in Natore-2 constituency, advocate Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu, said, “BNP is a party of liberation war. We hold and cherish this ideology. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman led the battlefield in the liberation war.”
“On the night of March 25, 1971, the Pak-invading forces attacked unarmed Bengalis and committed genocide. At that time, a patriotic army officer, unable to bear this torture, said, "I have declared a revolt with the Pakistani army. If Bangladesh had not been independent, Ziaur Rahman would have been hanged in a court martial. Despite knowing that he would be hanged for declaring a revolt, he declared a revolt, for the motherland and declared independence.”
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a program organized in honor of the brave and war-wounded freedom fighters at the main election office of the candidate for the paddy sheaf in Alipur on Wednesday morning.
He also said, “From history, we know that when a country starts a war of independence, the leader of the existing political party in that country declares the independence of that country. But unfortunately, the people of Bangladesh were suffering from a leadership vacuum that day. Ziaur Rahman was waiting for someone to declare independence. But when the leaders of any political party did not declare independence, then Ziaur Rahman realized that if we do not declare independence, the people of Bangladesh will not be united. If the people of Bangladesh are not united, then we will not be able to win the war of independence. Martyr President Ziaur Rahman showed the dream of freedom for the people of Bangladesh by declaring independence. He did not stop at showing dreams, and played a heroic role in country's war of independence by leading the war on the battlefield. That is why the name of martyr President Ziaur Rahman became the emotion of millions of people.”
The meeting held under the chairmanship of Atiqur Rahman Talukder, president of the Natore District Branch of the Bangladesh Freedom Fighters Command, was addressed by freedom fighter Abdul Hakim, engineer Farid Hossain, Habibul Islam Akand Helal, Abul Kalam Azad, Sekender Ali Rose, Jamshed Ali, Golam Rasul, Nayeem Uddin, District BNP convener Rahim Newaz, joint convener Mostafizur Rahman Shaheen, member secretary Election Steering Committee Farhad Ali Dewan Shaheen, among others.
