Convenor of the Citizen Platform for SDG Implementation, Bangladesh and Honorary Fellow of the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD), eminent economist Debapriya Bhattacharya, said that the government and the Election Commission must remove the fear and organize an acceptable election based on people's participation.
“Although everyone accepts that there will be an election, the fear of whether it will be a good and acceptable election or not is still not over. The Chief Advisor has spoken about holding the greatest election in history, which everyone is waiting for.”
He told this to the reporters after the pre-election initiative of the Citizen Platform, 'Regional Consultation Meeting', on Wednesday afternoon. The meeting was organized at a hotel in the GEC area of Chattogram city.
After the meeting, Debapriya Bhattacharya said, “Almost everyone is in favor of the election. Political parties, business groups, civil society, the army, other law enforcement agencies and the interim government also want elections. However, concerns about the ability to hold a fair election are not over.”
Regarding the internal reforms of political parties, Debapriya Bhattacharya said, "Despite the discussions on so many reforms in the country for one and a half years, there has been no major discussion on the internal reforms of political parties. No one has made any progress on this issue— politicians, the government, the Election Commission and the Anti-Corruption Commission."
