Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has confirmed that he plans to contest in the upcoming national election, scheduled for February next year.
He made the announcement on Wednesday while speaking at a press conference at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
“It is certain that I will contest the election. However, which party I will run from will be announced later,” he told reporters.
Asif currently serves as adviser to two ministries — the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives. He took charge on August 8, 2024, three days after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina–led government on August 5.
Asked whether he had submitted his resignation, Asif replied, “I’ve no authority to speak about it. The Chief Adviser’s Office will inform you about the issue in due time.”
He also refrained from commenting on whether any other adviser in the interim government plans to contest the 13th National Election, saying, “I don’t have the authority to comment on it either.”
