On International Human Rights Day, the United Kingdom reiterated its strong commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in Bangladesh, emphasizing that progress remains possible despite ongoing challenges.
In a message issued by the British High Commission in Dhaka on December 10, the UK highlighted that human rights are essential to Bangladesh’s future prosperity and stability. The High Commission stressed that respecting human rights, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring good governance are crucial to fostering inclusive growth, attracting investment, and promoting the full economic participation of women.
The statement further underscored that human rights strengthen national security by building stable democratic institutions, empowering civil society, and tackling disinformation and corruption. It also noted that human rights are key to driving development, ensuring accountability in public services, and protecting minorities, while helping prevent violence and instability.
Additionally, the UK emphasized the importance of human rights in addressing climate change, as they empower affected communities to make decisions and ensure fair, transparent solutions to safeguard lives and livelihoods.
